Gulf Shores, Ala. - Nearly six months to the day of the early-morning bank robbery, Justin E. Waller was convicted and sentenced to 37 months for the robbery attempt and 120 months for possessing a firearm in commission of a violent crime.
Waller will serve the two terms consecutively and then serve five years of supervised probation.
On Friday May 25 at 8:48 a.m., GSPD Communications received a call that shots had been fired at Hancock Bank and a suspect was running from the scene. Officers arrived moments later and determined that a black male adult armed with a handgun attempted to rob the bank as employees were opening the doors for the business day.
The suspect fired his gun after a struggle with bank employees. He then ran away from the scene. Police quickly established a perimeter to contain the suspect. He was located nearby and taken into custody without incident at 9:02 a.m. The weapon was also recovered.
