Suspects sought in Christmas Eve robbery of Malbis gas station

DAPHNE, Alabama – The Daphne Police Department is seeking information about the Christmas Eve armed robbery of a Malbis convenience store. According to Sgt. Brian Gulsby, two robbers entered the Malbis Shell at the corner of U.S. Highway 90 and State Highway 181 at approximately 11 p.m. Dec. 24. There were two employees and two customers in the store.

One of the robbers, described as a 6-foot-2 or 6-foot-3 black male, brandished a firearm and threatened the clerk, while going behind the counter and stealing money from the register. The other man, who was described as a black male about one foot shorter than his accomplice, did not display a weapon and stole several cartons of cigarettes. The two fled on foot, likely to a nearby vehicle, and no one was harmed in the incident.

Surveillance video from the scene showed the robbers were well concealed, wearing jeans, hoodies and masks. The gunman however, wore a distinct brand of Coogi jeans with a large “C” logo on the right rear pocket. Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area and saw anything suspicious, or anyone recognizing the individuals to contact the Daphne Police Department at 251-621-9100.

The robbery was the first in Daphne since an incident at BB&T Bank on U.S. Highway in September, when a white male, later identified as David Paul Beaudoin, 48, of Detroit, Mich., walked in and demanded money while showing a handgun. Beaudoin, who was also a suspect in a Pensacola robbery, was apprehended after a high-speed chase Sept. 27 in Mississippi.
