FOLEY — At about 1:45 p.m. Feb. 20, a white Mercury Mountaineer and a white Chrysler Concorde LX collided at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Alabama 59 in Foley, causing the Mountaineer to be flipped onto its side.
The Mountaineer's occupants, a mother and her small daughter, were transported from the scene in an ambulance, but Officer Ward Faust of the Foley Police Department said he did not believe their injuries were severe.
Eva Bergman, 76, was the driver of the Chrysler Concorde LX. She was headed west on 98. She said the driver of the Mountaineer was headed north and ran the red light.
"The light turned green, and before I knew it, she was zooming past me and hit me," said Bergman, who was not injured. "She hit the front of my car and her car overturned. She was just screaming. It was so sad."
Bergman said she was on her way to church at St. Margaret's of Scotland.
"I was going early to visit Jesus and the Blessed Sacrament," she said.
The intersection was cleared by 2:25 p.m.
