Sweet note at Senior Center

The week of April 21 ended on a sweet note at the Senior Center.

Thanks Herb Waters for the just-right hot dogs/sausages and all the fixings.

Doll Peterson surprised us with her delicious potato salad. And a variety of chips and dips and fries? By 6 p.m. we were ready for the movie.

Thanks Tony Griffin for your special effort to set up the projector, as well as getting the speakers we needed for sound.

Everyone enjoyed “Morning Seal” (Rowena). This was a setting in England by the seashore. It started very sad and gloomy but Rowena stirred the hearts of everyone. And it became a town of caring and sharing.

Check with the library and see if you can get this movie. Check out Rodney, he played a small but touching part in the movie.

We did have intermission for birthdays. And it so happened that two of our very own, Ann Benoist and Ernestine Sims were with us (high school friends and friends forever). No we didn’t talk about age.

The sweet note was the earthquake cake that Ann Knight made for the birthdays. It may not have shook the earth but a whole lot of moving going on for the cake. Delicious, Ann. Thanks.

By the way, we now have two tables of bridge on Fridays with a third in the making?

We are still working on starting a line-dancing class. If you have any suggestions, please call us. We’re looking for the just right DVD or an instructor. We’ve found that at least two dance steps are part of our exercise class.

Also, Mary Morgan is interested in starting a walk group. So if you are interested, call the Senior Center and leave your name and telephone number.

The monthly Bay Minette Area Senior Citizens Organization meeting will be at 4 p.m. this month due to AIM Walk Celebration at Robertsdale at 6 p.m. Senior Center Teams (four) will leave from the Senior Center to attend. Turtles may be slow but they endure.

Computer Classes are into spreadsheets for budgeting or other interest you may have. Also, photography and the computer will be the next week. Two topics of interest for everyone.

The Senior Travelers will be off to Monroeville for “To Kill a Mockingbird” presentation. If you are interested check with First Baptist Church office for details and to see if they still have a spot on the bus.

However, if you miss this one the bus will leave on Friday, May 16, at 4:30 from the church parking lot. Still a few spaces left. This is a trip to Chumuckla to the Farmer’s Opry featuring “The Shepherds.” Tickets are $25, which includes ticket and meal.

And if you are game, there is a trip planned to Branson (June 30 - July 5). Highlight will be musical “Noah.” Plans are to stop back by Vicksburg for a special treat, fireworks display on July 4.

Time to plan but need to call the Church Office for reservations. Ruth Howell is always looking for something of interest to seniors, so if you have a suggestion by all means leave your suggestion as you make your reservation.

What is the song, “Happy Trails?” Well, I do know wherever the bus goes it’s a happy time.

The Merry Month of May is going to be just that. Mark your calendar, Pot Luck May 14 at high noon. And be there as Tony Edwards strikes up the band. And there may be a few who will drop by to shake our hand, we can wish them well.

Ball Park is busy. Grandparents, I’ll be looking for you to be there. Let’s take time as the kids give it all they’ve got to please us. I like that song too, “Take Me Out to the Ball Park!” Lots of refreshments.

Fun to watch the parents interacting and the children all aglow in their uniforms. Your own helmet and bat? Those were the days, my friend.

May is the month to enjoy, even if it is in your own backyard.

Thought for the week: Fear less, hope more, eat less, chew more; whine less, breathe more; talk less, say more; love more and all good things will be yours

— Swedish proverb.
