Central Baldwin Middle School hosted their annual local sweet potato cook-off, which teaches students and adults about the important nutritive values and various cooking methods of the sweet potato. Many area farmers’ that grow sweet potatoes in Baldwin County donate the potatoes to the middle and high school programs that participate. The wonderful dishes prepared by Central Baldwin students were prepared in advance and ready to display the morning of the contest. Each student had to follow proper food safety procedures and all recipes had to contain at least one cup of sweet potatoes. Fourteen wonderful cooks from Mrs. Hopper’s Family and Consumer Science’s class competed. Mr. Pate, Mrs. Neth and Mrs. Beck, faculty at CBMS, enjoyed the challenge to select the overall winners. This year, third place went to Savannh Bullock, second place is Toni Autin and first place is Emily Sinclair. Emily represented Central Baldwin at the county contest Sept. 28 at the Baldwin County Fair and placed third.
