The Tanger Outlet Center in Foley will celebrate the nationwide outlet company's 30th anniversary Thursday with what could be the largest ever dessert party.
Other Tanger centers across the country will be celebrating the dessert parties, and the local center will try to have the largest attendance at the event.
"It's going to be simultaneously occurring across the United States at every Tanger Outlet," Jackie Sewell, general manager of the Foley-based center, said. "Steve Tanger is going to be ringing the bell at the stock exchange that day and hopefully hearing the word that we have set the Guinness Book of World Record for the largest dessert party. We hope to have the highest attendance here in Foley of all the different parties."
The party will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the center parking lot area next to the children's playground center, and at 2 p.m. every attendant lifting up a dessert into the air and then taking a bite. The act is to honor the center's founder, Stanley Tanger.
"We have been an innovator in the outlet industry," Sewell said.
There will be different types of dessert including mini-cupcakes, cookies and brownies, along with an enormous cake.
We're going to have a huge dummy cake," Sewell said, noting there also will be a disc jockey playing music.
