DAPHNE, Ala. — Daphne High School and the Daphne Civic Center raised about $20,000 after expenses at the 10th Annual Taste of the Eastern Shore themed “Bell Bottoms & Boogie Nights” on Friday at the Daphne Civic Center. All money raised from the event benefits Daphne High School.

The event featured 37 food and beverage venues from all around the area.

Daphne High School Principle Don Blanchard said he greatly appreciated residents’ and the vendors’ work to help his school.

“It’s an outstanding example of people in the community to come here and benefit all of the children of our society,” Blanchard said.

The event sold 1,100 tickets at $25 per ticket, Daphne Civic Center Director Margaret Thigpen said. Last year’s event raised around $22,000.

“Attendance is down because (the number of) vendors are down,” Thigpen said. “But expenses are down because of the use of paper products, so it should even out.” The city can send back paper products and receive a credit, Thigpen said, adding that the plates were smaller this year.

The event included a 50-50 raffle and a silent auction to raise additional money for Daphne High School.

In past years, a live band performed, but this year a deejay played different songs while the crowd took to the dance floor.
