Orrie Mae Plato Taylor, born May 7, 1916 in Bay Minette, died peacefully Sunday, May 2, 2010, the way she lived, at home surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She was a retired nurse who worked at the Old Mattie Rhodes Hospital, Bay Minette Infirmary and entered private nursing until her retirement. She was a life-long member of Pine Grove Baptist church. She loved her family, company, her flowers and the Atlanta Braves.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Plato; her husband, Floyd G. Taylor; son, Robert G. Taylor; two sisters, Bernice P. Elliot and Lois P. Hopson; and two brothers, Bill Plato and Frank Plato.
Survivors include five children, Donald F. Taylor of Bay Minette, Betty (Joe) Green of Mobile, Linda (Bob) Price of Josephine, Patricia Hudson of Atlanta and Verdis Hudson of Bay Minette; three brothers, Herman Plato, Winnal (Rosie) Plato and Major (Linda) Plato of Bay Minette; three sisters, Hazel Hawkins of Bay Minette, Louise Carnley of Pensacola, Fla., and Dottie (Ray) Wilcox of Rosinton; eight grandchildren: Sawya (Tony) Laukhart, Wesley (Angelle) Price, Wade Taylor, Rob (Heather) Taylor, Lori (Rick) Carver, Amber (Greg) Godwin, Haley Taylor and Jennifer (Billy) Berry; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services and visitation were held Wednesday, May 5 at Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Banning officiating. Burial followed at Pine Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Verdis Hudson, Reed Haase, Rob Taylor, Tom Haase, Jake Averitt, Tony Laukhart, Chris Elliot and Terry Strickland.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church, where her heart was centered on foreign missions, 42240 Pine Grove Road, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
