The Rev. Gerald Wayne Taylor Sr., a native of Birmingham and a resident of Daphne since his retirement in 1999, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 in Fairhope.
He began in ministry at age 15 and continued for 63 years. He was an Ordained Bishop with the Church of God in Cleveland, Tenn., serving as evangelist, pastor and state administrator for the denomination.
He was preceded in death by a son, Darren Taylor.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mildred Middleton Taylor of Daphne; three sons, Pastor Jerry (Jerri) Taylor of Daphne, the Rev. Gary (Tonya) Taylor of Dallas, and Robin (Stephanie) Taylor of Cleveland, Tenn.; brother, Doyle Taylor of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, June Harwell of Rossfield, Ga., Janeil Brinson of Crossville, Tenn; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 15 at Bay Community Church in Malbis. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16 at the church. Interment will follow at Silverhill Cemetery.
