There is a new “dirty word” in politics according to the popular media. As reported by the Grassfire Nation Newsletter, “Tea Party Patriots” are under attack. Over the last several weeks we have heard high-profile entertainers take a stab at the grass roots organization with name-calling as in, “racist,” “the underside of America,” “extremist movement,” or my personal favorite: “not the character of America.”
These attacks have been relentless and very misleading. The New York Times reported the number of favorable opinions toward the Tea Party has been the lowest in popularity for the past year. I don’t believe any of that. These loyal Americans are everything about the character of America. They want down-sized government, low taxes, a balanced budget and are constitutionalists.
Those who object to these people are scared of the success they will have in improving our country’s federal government. Everyone knows when somebody loses an argument, name-calling comes next. It’s obvious to those with a broad view of what’s really going on that those who are opposed to such an association are scared. By publicly denouncing this group, they think they will have the upper hand come a year from now at election time.
In actuality, the more negative stories told around the nation, the more people become attracted to this movement to demand fiscal responsibility, remove corruption from government and return states rights.
This movement has nothing to do with any political party. They are all pulling for the same ideals in government so it doesn’t matter whether you are a Republican or Democrat, as long as you are voting for common sense.
It was reported at Newsday.com, that these Tea Party Patriots are more popular now than ever, especially among the elected. There are pages of listings of blogs online from all over the country which profess the Tea Party plan of action — true Americans who want to see our federal government function the way it was intended and not control every feature of our lives.
From the blog, Conservatives for Reform, Ken Cook says in August, “Our efforts continue in the Tea Party and we are having some impact.” Those in the news media reporting the assaults on this group are out of step with what Americans really want.
In the words of Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775: “The battle, sir, is not the strong alone, it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave.”
We are in constant battle for the need of liberty in our country. The Tea Party Patriots know what is expected of all Americans just like Patrick Henry knew. We should be united in our stand against despotism. We should be united in our stand against abuses of power against our Constitution. I applaud these true patriots and hope their cause will forever keep us free.
