LOXLEY, Ala. — A group of nine teens traveling eastbound on I-10 Sunday evening went off the road approximately three miles west of Loxley, according to a report by state troopers.

Fifteen-year-old Charles Williams of Summerdale was killed when the 2005 Nissan Armada he was riding in left the road during the 5:30 p.m. single-vehicle accident

The news has cast a pall on the students of Foley Middle School, where Williams was a student, said Branton Bailey, principal of the school.

“Yesterday (Monday) we had multiple counselors at the school,” he said in a phone interview Tuesday.

“He was a very good, well-liked, a very easy-going kid,” said Bailey. “It has been a very somber two days.”

Students, according to Bailey, have been making memorials that they are taking to Williams’ family, and they are “working on something” to memorialize the Williams at the school.

The tragedy is also hard on the faculty of the school.

“I’ve been in this business 13 years and it gets no easier,” said Bailey. According to him, the young people had been skateboarding before the crash.

According to a report issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety , Williams was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Armada, Turner C. Little of Foley was also not wearing a seat belt and was taken to USA Medical Center. He was injured in the crash.

Six other teens were taken to area hospitals. Dustin Burroughs, 17, of Semmes was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

The injured included:

— Kristina Walter, 16, of Elberta was taken to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley.

— Dakota Traina, 17, of Foley was taken to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley.

— Brant Mitchell, 16, of Elberta and Kolby Trania, 14, of Foley were taken to USA Medical Center.

— Joseph Martinez, 16, of Elberta was taken to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.
