DAPHNE, Ala. — Local teenagers can dust off their best hats and gloves and head to the Daphne Library at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for lessons in the art of etiquette.
Former Daphne librarian and retired teacher Deborah Norris will host a formal tea for teenage girls, so they can learn more about the rules of polite behavior from the days when ladies wore hats and gloves to pay an afternoon call.
“It is going to be a wonderful event,” said Louise Youngblood of the Daphne Public Library, “It will give the participants the chance to see how things were done in their mother’s and grandmother’s time. They will get a real sense of a bygone era and some information they can use today, if they are faced with a formal event, such as a business dinner or big public occasion.”
As part of her talk, the teens will be able to see Norris’s own collection of antique hats and artifacts, which have been on display at the library recently.
Because of the nature of the event, registration is required and space is limited to 16 attendees. For more information contact Youngblood at the library, 621-2818 extension 211.
