John William Teipel, 67, born Feb. 17, 1943 in Covington, Ky., died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at his home.
He grew up in the Chicago and Kansas City areas. He raised a family in New Jersey and retired in Gulf Shores Alabama.
He earned his undergraduate degree at Rockhurst University and received his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry at Duke University.
At Duke he met his wife Paula and they were soon married, While in North Carolina they had their first child, Jim. They then packed their bags and headed to University of California at Berkley where they had their second child, Missy. After a stint at University of Illinois the family moved to New Jersey and he was employed in the field of diagnostic healthcare until retiring to Gulf Shores in 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Paula; two children, Jim and Missy; six grandchildren, Jessica, Tommy, Katie, Kelly, Tara and Stephanie; and his mother-in-law, Pauline Thomas.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 30 at his home.
