LOXLEY — A Houston woman is facing drug trafficking charges after a routine traffic stop on Interstate 10 last week near Loxley.

Baldwin County Deputy Al Tolbert stopped a 1998 Plymouth Voyager on Thursday, May 20 at the 53 mile marker of I-10 after observing several traffic violations.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Department, Tolbert detected a “strong smell of marijuana” from inside the vehicle. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle gave Tolbert consent to search the vehicle.

Tolbert found nine bundles of marijuana in the cargo area of the van covered by blankets. The bundles, wrapped in cellophane, weighed approximately 156 pounds.

Renee Corin Durrance, 48, of Houston, was arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana. As of Monday, Durrance remained in the Baldwin County Jail on a $1 million bond.
