The Rev. W. Kenneth Hughes Sr., 92, a native of Lexington, Ky., and a resident of Fairhope, since 1981, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in New Guinea and the Philippines.

He was a graduate of Transylvania University and Lexington Theological Seminary both of Lexington, Ky. He also earned a M. Ed. degree from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va.

He served for more than 53 years as a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Roberta Moreno Hughes; and three children, Elizabeth Mae, W. Kenneth Jr., and John D. Hughes.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy “Dottie” Edwards Dale Hughes of Fairhope; daughter, Susan (Henry) Rosaly of Fairhope; sister, Betty Jean Dalton of Shortsville, N.Y.; three step-sons, Barney (Eileen) Freiberg-Dale of Newton, Mass., Brian (Sue) Dale of Oxford, Ga., and Bradley (Samantha) Dale of Birmingham; two step-daughters, Deborah Schiller of Fairhope and Donna (Robert) Evans of Jackson, Miss.; grandchildren, Roberta Rosaly, Connie Pizzotti, Rebecca Rosaly, Laura Rosaly, Solona and Sabrina Freiberg-Dale, Daniel (Roshell), Jeffrey, Bathany, Michael, David, Sydney and Lindsay Dale, Rebekah, Ian and Hannah Schiller, Emily and Angela Evans, Eleanor (Lowell) Goldman; great-grandchildren, Michael and Jessica Rapuano, Susanna and Stephan Davis, Hailey and Jake Pizzotti, Maia and Audrey Dale; great-great-grandchild, Sophia Rosaly; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4 at Fairhope Christian Church. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Crary Memorial Cemetery, Bluff Springs, Fla.
