Searching for the perfect present for the man, woman, or teenager who has everything? For the person with tastes so finicky that you live in terror of trying to pick an object that will meet their approval… For the person who is militantly anti-clutter, or whose sizes you shudder to guess at… Theatre 98 has come to your rescue! Season tickets for the 2013 season are a perfect gift for people who love the performing arts, who want to support wonderful local institutions, or who need a little nudge to get out more and have some fun.
The 2013 season has a great mix of plays, starting in February with an American classic from the 1950’s, “Bus Stop,” by William Inge, the story of the romantic connections and misconnections that take place during the night a busload of travelers is stranded by a blizzard in a small roadside café.
In May the theatre is presenting a contemporary drama about the making of art, “Inventing Van Gogh,” by Steven Dietz. An art dealer hires a young painter to forge a “recently found” final masterpiece, and the action goes back and forth between Van Gogh’s time and ours as the play examines the obsession to create and the meaning of myth.
July brings The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wilde, by Paul Zindel, a comedy about an eccentric candy shop owner who finds that the boundary between her real life and the lives of the characters in the movies she adores is becoming blurred.
The season ends in October with a thriller, “Night Watch,” by Lucille Fletcher. An emotionally fragile woman maintains that she has seen a dead body through the window of the house across the street, but when the police investigate, they find nothing. What is really going on is something you won’t see coming.
Adult season tickets are $60 each; student season tickets are $40. Call 928-4366 and leave a message, or download, print and mail in the order form on the theatre website at theatre98.org. Tickets will be issued at the end of January, but the theatre will provide a nice card to go under the tree.
But suppose your gift recipient already is a season ticket holder, or you just want to give them something more permanent? The theatre is also selling engraved pavers to be set into the patio outside the lobby door.
Just $200 will get you a 12” square brick that can be engraved with up to six lines of text; if you don’t have quite that much to say, you can get one that is 4” by 8” with up to three lines of text.
What a wonderful way to honor or remember someone, and they won’t have to dust it. The order form can be downloaded at theatre98.org, or phone 928-4366. The pavers take some weeks to be manufactured, but if you let us know you need one, we can give you a Theatre 98 card to give your recipient letting them know of the honor in store.
