"layout-grid-mode: line; font-family:">He was a graduate of Shades Valley High School in Birmingham and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University).

"layout-grid-mode: line; font-family:">Mr. Shields loved the beauty of God’s Creation, art, people and above all else, his family. He realized his dream of retiring to Fairhope and treasured being a part of that community.

"layout-grid-mode: line; font-family:">Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Lucia Shields.

"layout-grid-mode: line; font-family:">He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joyce Shields; daughters, Karen Lee Shields Parks (Richard) and Lauree Shields Riggin (John); grandchildren, Justin Riggin (Courtney), Kelly Garada (Said), Rebecca Riggin, Zachary Parks and Hannah Rose Riggin; two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Zachary Garada; other relatives and friends.
