Mr. Thomas Ivey Dorough, 85, a retired chief shop steward with Alabama Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Co., died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at his residence. He was a native of Frisco City and a resident of Stapleton for 45 years.
He was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and served as Trustee, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 60 years, Carolyn Jaye Dorough; a daughter, Elizabeth Thomasine Dorough; his parents, Henry and Anna Dorough; five brothers, Woodrow Wilson Dorough, John William Dorough, O.C. Dorough, James Millard Dorough and Willie Drew Dorough; and one sister, Eula Grace Dorough Johnson.
Survivors include his children, Thomas D. (Mary) Dorough, Stapleton, Bobbie (Mike) Harvill, Bay Minette, Pam (the Rev. Randy) Byrd, Scobey, Miss., and Brenda (Keith) Grimes, Stapleton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends; brothers, Thomas Alfred Dorough, Felix Dorough and Willie Dorough Jr.
Services were Jan. 31, at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Byrd and the Rev. Houston Gill officiating. Interment was at Mexia Baptist Cemetery, Mexia, Ala.
