Thomas “Tom” Bennett died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 peacefully at home in Fairhope after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 2, 1941, in Cleveland Heights, East Cleveland, Ohio. He worked for 20 years at the Cleveland Plain Dealer Newspaper and 20 years at the Lubrizol Corp, Painesville, Ohio. He and his wife retired to their home in Fairhope in 1999.

He loved playing golf with his many friends. He was a carver and wood turner and a member and past president of Azalea Wood Turners Club. He was a member of St. Paul’s Eastern Shore Church, Daphne, AL. He and his wife enjoyed snorkeling and traveled to many warm and wonderful places together.

Survivors include his wife of 49 1/2 years, Carol Rogers Bennett; son, Steven Bennett of Ashtabula, Ohio; daughter, Barbara Bennett (Charlie) Vendeville; grandchildren, Matthew and Cara Vendeville of Perry, Ohio; sister-in-law, Patricia Parkin of Temple, Texas; and many friends.

The family wishes to thank St. Paul’s parishioners, wonderful Father Thack, St. Paul’s Thrift Shop, many churches of different denominations and several synagogues in many states, Saad’s Home Health and Hospice, Diversified Home Health Care, Fairhope, Thomas Hospital, Fairhope, South Baldwin Hospital, Foley, his amazing doctors and mulititude of friends for their skill, patience, love and support.

A memorial service may be scheduled at a later date.
