Susan Melissa Thompson and Darren Scott Reed were united in marriage on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 5 o’clock at the Capital City Club in Montgomery, AL.  Reverend Ryan K. Yaun officiated the evening ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thomas Thompson of Bay Minette, AL.  She is the granddaughter of Mr. James E. Smith and the late Louise Tindal Smith of Greenville, AL. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ray Thompson of Douglasville, GA.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Elisha Reed of Montgomery, AL.  He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Levi Chester Estill of Dovertown, AL. and the  late Mr. and Mrs. Evan Eldie Reed of Cordova, AL.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of ivory silk featuring a hand beaded silk organza overlay with finger tip veil.  The bride carried a bouquet of white vendella roses, tulips and peonies, tied with an ivory-monogramed ribbon.  The Club was beautifully decorated by Southern Wedding Designs with Christmas greenery, red roses, lilies, tulips, mums, celosia and holiday berries.

Larry Gissendanner, pianist, presented a prelude of holiday music. Wedding music was provided by Ahrim Kim - cello, Peter Povy - viola, Ashley Tatum - violin and Chris Whatley - guitar and vocal soloist.  Mrs. Mary Sanders served as wedding director.

The bride chose her sister, Elizabeth Thompson Day of Bay Minette, AL. as her matron of honor. The groom chose his brother David Mark Reed of Germantown, TN. as his best man. Samuel Gladen Day, nephew of the bride, served as ring bearer, carrying the wedding bands in a cedar box crafted by the father of the bride. Ushers for the ceremony were Garrett Alden Reed and Cooper Alexander Reed, nephews of the groom. Laura Alyssa Garland, niece of the groom, served as program and guest book attendant.

Guests enjoyed a candlelight holiday dinner reception overlooking historic downtown Montgomery from the 21st floor of the Capital City Club. Both a bride and groom’s cake were provided by Peggy McKinney.  On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner aboard the Harriott II Riverboat on the Alabama River. Following a honeymoon in the islands of Hawaii, the couple is now at home in Montgomery.
