BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Three Pensacola, Florida, residents were arrested on New Year’s Day and charged with chemical endangerment of a child after Baldwin County Sheriff’s Deputies say they found “Spice” in a vehicle during a traffic stop at a gas station in Stockton.
“Deputies rolled up on three individuals in the early morning hours (on Sunday) at the Shell station on (Alabama) 225 at Interstate 65,” said Capt. Steve Arthur, lead investigator with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. “The three individuals were acting suspiciously and a search of the vehicle was conducted.”
During the search deputies retrieved a substance later identified as synthetic marijuana, or “Spice.” There was also evidence of the substance burning as if being used inside the vehicle.
Three individuals, Ashley Barnette, 23, Larry Collier, 58, and David Collier, 34, all of Pensacola, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance. All three were also charged with chemical endangerment of a child because Barnette’s 4-year-old daughter was present in the vehicle at the time, Arthur said. All three were booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Facility on Sunday.
Barnette is in jail on a $21,000 bond, according to the jail website, while Larry Collier was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, which carries an additional $500 bond. David Collier is on a detainer for hold with the Orange Beach Police Department and is in jail without bond.
“The child’s father came and picked up the child, who is now (presumably) in his possession,” Arthur said. According to reports, DHR is also investigating the case.
