Three sign at Baldwin County High

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Three Baldwin County High defensive players signed scholarships Wednesday during the National Signing Day. Defensive ends Dalton Overstreet and Montrea Thornton signed with Faulkner University in Montgomery Outside Linebacker DJ Mix chose to attend William Jewel College in Liberty, Missouri.

Earless Overstreet and Christy Boutwell Garner, Dalton's parents were on hand as well as Montrea's parents Ray and Tammy Thornton. Mix was represented by his mother Monica Gilberry and uncle, Kansas City Chiefs' Defensive End Wallace Gilberry, a BCHS alum.

“I salute these three guys, today is a big step towards their future,” Gilberry said. “I am very proud of them.”

“William Jewel has a small class size so I will get the attention I need and won't get lost in the crowd,” Mix said. “Also the players have shown that they want to be there to play, but the biggest reason is the football program is in a rebuilding phase and I want to be a part of that rebuilding process."

Overstreet and Thorton both had a late visit last Thursday to Faulkner University.

“I fell in love with the school and atmosphere when I went to visit,” Overstreet said. “Also the idea that it's not so far from home and my family will be able to come watch me play helped in my decision."

Thornton shared the same sentiments as Overstreet, saying “It is a great opportunity for myself as well as my 'brother' Dalton."
