BAY MINETTE, Ala.—Baldwin County High scored the first nine points of overtime and then held for a 73-70 win over county rival Robertsdale Tuesday night in Bay Minette.
After the quick overtime start, BCHS needed three Montez Brown free throws to wrap up the hotly contested game. The Bears had cut it to 71-70 with :14 (seconds) left on a Rashad Hobby layup. Brown then sank two free throws with :04 left to make it a three point lead. Hobby's running three-point attempt at the buzzer fell short.
Isiah Dortch led the Tigers with a 23 point scoring effort. Jakori Savage had 22 for Coach Lorenzo Hunter's Tigers while Montrey Bishop added thirteen. Brown scored five, Ladarrius Killings had four, Germaine Williams three, Mack Adams two, and Shamone Morris one.
Coach Marshall Davis' Bears got a game high 24 from Hobby, 16 from Nathan Smith, fourteen from Lonnie Dailey, and twelve from Dylan Smith. BCHS improved to 10-8 with the win while RHS dropped to 6-17.
Robertsdale led 16-12 after one period of play as Hobby and Dailey both sank long threes to offset three pointers from Dortch. Another Dortch three put BCHS in front at 21-18 but Nathan Smith and Hobby led the Bears back. After Savage had a three point play inside to make it 28-24, RHS scored seven straight points to grab a 31-28 lead. A Savage dunk make it 31-30 at halftime.
The Bears then came out strong in the third quarter and eventually built a ten point lead at 45-35. But a 9-0 BCHS run closed out the period with RHS leading 45-44.
Mack Adams, Savage, and Dortch had buckets to give BCHS a 55-51 lead with just four minutes remaining in regulation. A Nathan Smith three pointer and a Dylan Smith inside basket made it 56-55 Robertsdale with under three minutes.
Savage and Bishop had scores for Hunter's team to tie it up at 59 all before two Hobby free throws with :34 left regained the lead for the visitors. A Dortch driving layup then knotted the score with :25 left and forced the overtime period. Four points from Bishop, a Dortch three pointer, and a Savage lay in off a lob made it 70-61 Baldwin County's way.
