Time for LuLu Palooza in Gulf Shores

It is nearing Memorial Day on the gulf coast, and every local knows what this means: another music-filled weekend for LuLu’s annual LuLu Palooza. Lucy Buffet’s free music festival will take place once again on the Saturday and Sunday of May 28th and 29th. Well known musicians such as Paul Thorn, Randall Bramblett, the Soul Rebels Brass Band, and Johhny Sketch and the Dirty Notes are planned to play during the much anticipated weekend with no cover charge required but a sunburn and a smile.

The festival will take place at LuLu’s Restaurant, located at Homeport Marina by the W.C. Holmes Bridge in Gulf Shores. Musical acts will be taking place throughout the two days with the main acts starting at sunset. LuLu’s well known menu will be available for hungry festival-goers during these acts also.

LuLu Palooza was originally started to bring another great source of music and art to the gulf coast; and what better time to do it than the most anticipated weekend of the year? The festival kicked off on Memorial Day of 2005 with acts including John Cleary, Shannon McNally, and the Benjy Davis Project and experienced immediate success. Not only were popular bands and musicians able to be seen free of charge, but another opportunity to celebrate our beloved region with good food and music was introduced to gulf coast natives once again.

Aside from a lineup of popular bands that will fill Saturday and Sunday, the festival will also include the LuLu’s Fresh Art Market that will consist of the works of local artists, open for the viewing and purchase of festival attendees. 30 percent of the profits that the artists make will be donated to the Baldwin County Public Schools Art Department.

When talking with Johnny Fisher, General Manager of LuLu’s, about the upcoming LuLu Palooza, he said this about the event, “It is great to officially kick off the summer with an event as fun as this, and we love having the opportunity to give free music to the community we love so much.” Coming up on the 6th year of the annual festival, Fisher says LuLu’s is looking for ways to make the event even more special by bringing in bigger acts.

It is a known fact among southerners that the three most important signs of a successful Memorial Day weekend consist of good food, good music, and good memories. Based on this well-known fact, one can be sure that LuLu Palooza will enjoy another successful year on the gulf coast.
