TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — It didn’t take T.J. Yeldon long to make his presence known at the University of Alabama.
The freshman early enrollee, who graduated from Daphne High School in December, had five catches for 91 yards and carried 16 times for 88 yards with a 50-yard touchdown catch for the White team in Alabama’s annual A-Day spring football game on Saturday. His performance earned him the Dixie Howell Most Valuable Player of the Game Award, voted on by the media in attendance.
Yeldon led all Alabama players in both rushing and receiving yards in the game, which the White team won 24-15.
Yeldon’s touchdown came in the third quarter on a pass from quaterback Phillip Sims and put the White team up 17-9.
Yeldon was honored as the state’s best high school football player in January, winning the title of the state’s “Mr. Football” given by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. He rushed for 2,196 yards and 32 touchdowns as a senior at Daphne.
Foley graduate Robert Lester recorded an interception, a pass break up and three tackles in the game for the White defense, and fellow Foley alum D.J. Fluker started at right tackle for the Crimson offense. Lester won the Sylvester Croom Commitment to Excellence Award to cap the spring session, while Fluker won the Jerry Duncan “I Like to Practice” Award.

Yeldon joined Daphne teammate Ryan Anderson, a linebacker, in signing with Alabama and enrolling early for spring practice.
