A toddler was found in Cotton Bayou waters around noon yesterday, officials said this morning. The 18-month-old boy was near death when rescue workers arrived on the scene.
“It’s unknown how long the child was in the water,” Fire Chief Forney Howard said.
There was a surgeon on the scene, possibly a family friend or a neighbor, attempting to revive the child with CPR when rescue workers arrived. As paramedics went through regular protocols, a helicopter arrived to airlift the toddler to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. The child was not responsive.
The boy died and officials are not releasing the name of the boy or his family. No other details were released about the incident due to an ongoing investigation.
