GULF SHORES, AL - A series of four fun concerts with toe-tapping music will open the winter 2016 music season at Gulf Shores United Methodist Church.

Tickets for all events are available at the GSUMC South Campus in Thee Coffee Shop from 9 a.m.-noon.

Leading off on Friday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary is the second annual Cody and Friendsconcert. Featured will be Cody Johnson with his guitar, playing the piano and singing among other things.

Music will range from opera to art songs, classic to contemporary, country to rock and much in between. Featured along with Cody will be Henry Rev, a favorite rock and blues keyboard artist, and Ralph Pereda on percussion.

Also performing will be members of the GSUMC Praise Singers, young singer-songwriter Caitlen Sommerville and singer Chandler Wills along with several other guests of all ages. Admission is $10 per person. Proceeds from the event will support the mission of the GSUMC Methodist Men and the music program of GSUMC. The 2015 inaugural Cody and Friends show was a complete sellout.

Three-on-a-String has become a favorite with Gulf Shores music lovers. They will present two evening concerts: Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23, both at 7 p.m. in the GSUMC South Campus auditorium. The group is folksy and funny, yet professional and musically accomplished.

Their show includes bluegrass standards, pop tunes interspersed with several comedy skits. Their White House performance was among President George H. W. Bush’s favorites.

Admission is $10 per person. Concert sponsors may use their concert passes and will enjoy reserved seating. Event proceeds support the music ministry of Gulf Shores United Methodist Church.

Snowbird Broadway, a much-enjoyed concert by winter visitors and locals alike, will be presented by the GSUMC Chancel Choir two evenings: Thursday, Jan. 28 and Friday, Jan. 29, both in the GSUMC sanctuary at 7 p.m.

Featuring Broadway and other popular music, the show includes a wonderful medleyThe Beatles in Revue, favorites from Jesus Christ Superstar, and memorable tunes from My Fair Lady. The choir is directed by Cody Johnson, GSUMC Director of Worship Arts. Keyboard artist Jackie Dahlman is the accompanist. Tickets are $10 per person. Concert sponsors may use their passes and enjoy reserved seating.

The Blue, The Gray and The Scarlett will make their Gulf Shores debut at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31 in the GSUMC South Campus auditorium. Comprised of Tom Meader (the Blue), who is an annual winter visitor to the area, Mel Middlebrooks (the Gray) and Marsha Guyer (Scarlett), who are well-known local residents, the group presents a variety of music styles from soft rock oldies to more contemporary numbers.

All three are current or past members of the Coastal Chorale and are also active in church music and the South Baldwin Community Theater.

Tickets are $5 per person. Concert sponsors may use their concert passes and enjoy reserved seating.
