James Buford Tolbert Sr., 79, born in Atmore and a resident of the Pine Grove community of Bay Minette, died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at North Baldwin Infirmary in Bay Minette.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a retired security guard with Marriott Grand Hotel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernis J. Tolbert, his sister, Pauline Gorum and his brother, David Eugene Tolbert.
Survivors include his children, Gayle (Ernest) Bishop of Fairhope, Susan (Jimmy) Godwin, Jimmy (Charlotte) Tolbert, Charles D. “Chuck” (Shirley) Tolbert and Joseph (Rhonda) Tolbert, all of Bay Minette, Patrick (Darla) Tolbert of Spanish Fort and Rachel (Jeff) Black of Bay Minette; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Almond Tolbert of Bay Minette; Ronald Tolbert of Buena Vista, Ariz., J.W. Tolbert, Forsyth, Ga., and David C. Tolbert of Warner Robins, Ga.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 1 at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Cornelius officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were: Bob Young, Eric Stewart, Joey Tolbert, Bunky Bishop, Wade Tolbert and Gary Waters.
