With six different plays and musicals scheduled for the upcoming year, The South Baldwin Community Theater will kick off the 2012 season by presenting “Tornadoes Touching Down”, in January. The second in a series of plays by local playwright Laura Sansing Pfizenmayer, “Tornadoes Touching Down” focuses on the trials and tribulations of the fictional Whitfield family, as they struggle to keep it together through a wedding, a new baby, and of course, a tornado.
The play is the latest offering by Laura Sansing Pfizenmayer, a graduate of the University of Alabama, Birmingham and a seasoned playwright with over 40 plays produced. She is a member of Playwrights in Progress and although her passion lies in writing, she is also an avid community volunteer. “Tornadoes Touching Down” is the second play to be produced by the South Baldwin Community Theater from her series about the Whitfield family, the first being “Livin’ & Comin’ Back,” which was held at the theater in October 2010.
Chase S. King, a graduate of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and Foley High School, directed “Livin’ & Comin’ Back” last year and returns to take the helm once again to direct “Tornadoes Touching Down.” Joining his side in the director’s chair is fellow Foley High School graduate Meg Reid.
“Tornadoes Touching Down” will be held at the South Baldwin Community Theater on January 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. and January 8 and 15 at 2 p.m. South Baldwin Community Theater is located at 2022 West 2nd Street, Gulf Shores.
