SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Spirits are soaring one week after Spanish Fort High School brought home its first 5A state football championship — the Toros defeated Briarwood Christian 14-0 — and the public is invited to help congratulate the varsity players.
Beef O’Brady’s in Spanish Fort will host a community celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The event will give supporters the opportunity to not only meet the SFHS football players and cheerleaders but snap pictures and snag a few autographs as well.
During a private ceremony slated for 8:15 a.m. today, the team will present the championship trophy to the school during a school-wide assembly.
Earlier this week, the city council issued a proclamation honoring the team for its historical achievement and praising its members for setting the bar so high for future players.
Daphne honored the Daphne High School Trojans — who won the Class 6A state championship game last Friday, defeating Hoover 7-6 — with a “Parade of Champions” Thursday on Main Street. The school also recognized its players during a Thursday morning assembly.
