TROY – The Spanish Fort American AAA all-stars were eliminated Monday in the bottom of the seventh inning of the third round at the Dixie Youth state tournament in Troy.

After 7-2/3 innings of scoreless baseball, Hartselle's all-stars scored the winning run and advanced.

The pitchers' duel saw Spanish Fort's Briggs McMullen strike out four and Jackson Rogers one to get out of jams. McMullen and Pearson Cockrell had the only hits for SF.

Spanish Fort threatened to score multiple times, particularly when Joseph McLeod and Cal Smith each advanced runners into scoring position and Austin Linton stealing second, but in all, five runners were left on base.

Two errors in the bottom of the seventh and an intentional walk to load the bases with two outs put the Toros in the final jam of the night. A force out was all that was needed to go to the eighth inning, but a clean single drove in the winning run for Hartselle.

The AL Toros went 1-2 at the state level falling to Dothan Southern in the opener and bouncing back to top the Mountaineers 9-6.
