SPANISH FORT, Alabama —Spanish Fort took a lead in the middle of the first quarter and steadily pulled away from visiting Gulf Shores to take a 61-38 Class 5A Area 2 win Friday night.
The Dolphins jumped out to an early 9-3 lead, but the Toros made an 11-2 run in the last three minutes of the first period to lead 14-11 to start the second quarter and led 29-20 at the half.
Reagan Eubanks led the Home Bulls with a game-high 20 points, Quinn Atkinson added 14 and Grant Schumacher finished with 11 for the No. 7-Ranked Spanish Fort boys who improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in their 5A Area 2 league with the "Phins, B.C. Rain and Williamson. Gulf Shores dropped to 5-8 overall with their first area-league loss.
Isaac Ronan scored 12 points to lead Gulf Shores while Daniel LaBorde and Parker Strabel each added six.
The Toros kept pushing in the third quarter with frequent fast breaks and full-court pressure to outscore the Dolphins 21-8 to lead 50-28 after three periods.
Spanish Fort will host Fairhope High Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and will host their Spanish Fort Christmas Tournament beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m. with Citronelle High's Wildcats. UMS-Wright is also taking part in that two-day event at the SFHS Bull Market.
Gulf Shores will host the Gulf Coast Christmas Classic starting Thursday at The Tank at 3:30 p.m. with Selma and plays St. Paul's Episcopal at 7:30 p.m.
