SPANISH FORT, Alabama — Spanish Fort hosted a 16-team track and field meet Thursday on The Hill where the 2013 Baldwin County Championships will be held.

McGill-Toolen Catholic won the boys and girls team meets. The hosting boys team, the Toros took second over Mobile Christian while Bayside Academy edged the Lady Toros for the silver in the girls division.

Meet director and SFHS head coach Michael Rauch was pleased with the meet and with his teams.

“Our teams ran great today, even though we were missing some kids to injury and sickness. Linsey Hrabovsky is out with tendinitis and Jordan Thomas was out due to the flu. Jordan currently has the No. 4 time in 5A for the 100.”

Rauch said some of his kids who stepped up for the home team were: “Stephan Holcombe— finished third in the 400 with a 50.95 and second in the 100 with an 11.28. This kid is only a freshman. Tyler Orem scored a huge 25 second PR in the 3200 finishing second to Baldwin County’s Cody Parker. Not to mention Grant Schumacher who has won all 3 meets he has competed in the High Jump. (Grant) currently holds the number one height in Alabama with 6-6 (all divisions), he jumped 6-4 yesterday. Our kids competed real hard, and I feel that we learned a lot so that we can now focus on the second half of the season.”
