Toros sweep Lions on the Hill

SPANISH FORT, Ala.—The Toros swept a doubleheader over Foley Monday 6-4 and 7-6.  The Lions built a 6-2 lead in the nightcap but the Toros rallied with four runs to tie the score 6-6, then won it in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off single by Hunter Stokes to score Dylan Alford for the winning run on the fourth and final lead change of the game. Alford was 3-for-4 with an RBI double and touched home three times.

Trevor Jennings got the start and Dayton Cook got the win in relief for SFHS (12-5). Hunter Beard delivered a two-run single to score Jesse McCord and Brian Lane in the SF third. Gunner Hendrix¹ RBI single brought in Alford for the first Toro run. Hunter Stokes had an RBI to score Rob Perteet.

In the matinee, Perteet led at the plate with an RBI double and a single and picked up the save on the mound with a one-inning one hitter. Mike Farnell got the win with three runs allowed off four hits over 4 -1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked two. Myles York pitched 1-2/3 innings of middle relief to set up Perteet. A sacrifice fly by Brian Lane put the Toros up in the first inning, Beard scored on Perteet’s double.

The Lions were led by Austin McWatters RBI single and an RBI double by Sam Heinen. Brax Garrett singled and reached base three times.

On Wednesday, Spanish Fort defeated B.C. Rain 11-0 for a 5A Area 2 victory. McCord and Perteet had RBI singles and Stokes an RBI double and an RBI single. Farnell then doubled in Stokes who had an RBI to bring in Gunner Hendrix. Ryan Brooks scored on a Jake White single.
