SPANISH FORT, Alabama — Will Luft got a 7-3 win in his first varsity start over visiting Davidson Monday on The Hill to lead the Toros to their 20th win of the season. It was his second victory of the year for Spanish Fort after picking up one in relief earlier this season. The Toros belted 11 hits, six of them in the first two innings when SF put up all seven runs.

The right hander struck out five and gave up four hits including a two-run homer to M.J. Morrisette in the fourth who prevented the shutout for the Warriors.

Danny Rose delivered three hits and three RBIs, Andrew Ferrell added an RBI triple, Joel Poe an RBI double, Tyler Trammel and Jesse McCord had hits and Luft also singled and scored the first run on a Rose's first at bat.

The Toros (20-6) start their 5A Area 2, three-game series with the Dolphins at Gulf Shores at 6 p.m. tonight then conclude the series, which is for the area title, Thursday at SFHS with the first game set for 4 p.m.

"Will is getting better and better this year," said SFHS head coach Tommy Walker. "He started out strong, had him play a lot of JV innings this year to get more work in and his last outing he just dominated. So, we brought him up against G. W. Long (in relief) and he did well, got the win and we think he can help us a lot the rest of the way. I'm pleased with pitching and defense, but our offense needs some work. We start out aggressively, get a lead and then sit on it and expect pitching and defense to carry us and it has, But I don't feel real comfortable about that. We should be able to finish, to bury people by staying aggressive at the plate — getting even more aggressive — as the game goes on. I know I shouldn't complain with 20 wins from such a young team. So, I'm pleased but we're not there yet and still have work to do."
