Town amends Ordinance for Business License Beer and Wine Distribution

LOXLEY, Ala. — The Town of Loxley passed a motion to amend part of the Business License Code for fee scheduling at the Monday night council meeting.

Ordinance No. 2011-06 pertains to the Business License Code Section 23, Schedule “B” for Beer, Wine and Liquor and fees for the Distributors License was added as follows “Beer Wholesale, $275.00 and Wine Wholesale, $275.00’” .

Other fees in Schedule “B” include “beer on/off premise, $75, beer off premise only, $50, table wine on/off premise, $75, table wine off premise only, $75, Lounge Retail Liquor Class I, $75, $650, $75, Package Store Liquor Class I, $75, $650, $75, Restaurant Retail Liquor, $75, $650, $75 and Club Liquor Class II, $75, $650, $75.

The council also passed Ordinance No. 2011-05 declaring August 5-7 a Sales Tax holiday for the town and passed a motion to approve an ABC License application for Dollar General Store at 3300 S. Hickory Street for retail beer (off premises only) and retail table wine (off premises only).

Tommy Hudson, Superintendent of Utilities, presented bids to the council for a new Zero Turn lawn mower to be purchased for $7,759.96 from Robertsdale Power Equipment, Inc. Hudson said they will require some short-term financing to purchase it. Other bids were from Parkway Equipment in Robertsdale, G and J’s Power Equipment in Foley and Foley Implement. A motion was passed to approve the bid unanimously.

The council also passed a motion to approve a K-9 Agreement to use two Labrador Retrievers as drug dogs. The dogs were purchased by Loxely Police Officers Aaron Glass and Billy Coley solely for the purpose of drug dog training and are being leased to the department. The two-year old dogs were nationally certified in Louisiana and bought in Baldwin County.

In other council business, three proclamations were passed, one for the CARE House declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, one for the Baldwin County Humane Society Day on April 20 and one declaring May 1 Law Enforcement Day.

The council commended the Fire and Police Department on all the hard work they put into the Strawberry Festival. “I think this is the best Strawberry Festival to date. There was a great crowd and good weather, food and entertainment. The fire and police department did a great job and represented the town well,” Mayor Billy Middleton said.

Also announced was the Town Easter Egg Hunt at Loxley Municipal Park on Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. and the Town offices would be closed on April 22 for Good Friday.
