LOXLEY, Ala. — With all members present, the Loxley Town Council met in regular session Monday.

The council heard an item that was not on the agenda — extending leave without pay to an injured worker.

Tommy Hudson, the town’s Utilities Superintendent explained to the council that an employee, Jeremy Wright, was injured while riding a “four wheeler.”

The wrist injury is healing, but there are still rods protruding from under the skin, making Wright’s return at this time to the town wastewater plant problematic. Wright was injured before Thanksgiving.

“When I saw him the other day, he still had the rods coming out,” said Hudson, who added that Wright’s doctor did not want him to return to work because the risk of infection with open wounds.

While Wright has used his eight weeks of sick leave, he has asked for council approval for 12 weeks of unpaid leave. Wright’s benefits will remain in force during that time.

“By the time you meet again, his 12 weeks will be up,” said Hudson adding that there are no comparable positions he can be transferred to.

The council voted unanimously to extend the leave.

The council also approved purchasing a sign at the Robertsdale high baseball field for $150.

The council also heard from Superintendent of parks Glen Hedden, asking for permission to obtain and plant some more trees around the playground at the Municipal Park.

“They need some more shade there,” said Hedden.

The council also voted to be a “premium sponsor” for $750 of the Loxley Bluegrass Festival slated for February.

In other action, the council voted to:

— Approved the minutes of the Dec. 8 meeting.

— Approved payment of town bills in the amount of $54,858.28.

— Approved a resolution giving initial support to the Alabama Coastal Captive Insurance company.
