Foley, Ala. - The town of Summerdale released a letter Friday that was delivered to Police Chief Dwaine Riebeling regarding why Mayor David Wilson is recommending to the town council Riebeling's termination.

The letter lists 14 reasons why Riebeling is being considered for termination. Some of the accusations included in the letter are:

• "repeated incompetence and inefficiency."

• neglect of duty regarding a Nov. 9, 2010 complaint by a town resident.

• failure to conduct a proper investigation of a 2010 shooting incident that resulted in a disabling injury, and deciding that the incident was an attempted suicide without proper evidence, "causing a loss of insurance coverage" for the victim.

• encouraging police officers to go door-to-door in the town "for the purpose of generating opposition to actions contemplated by the town council and/or mayor relating to the structure and organization of the police department."

The letter also states there will be a hearing "conducted by the town council on March 17." The hearing will take place at the Municipal Complex in executive session, the letter states. It also states Riebeling has the right to "appear at this hearing in person or by representative and to address the charges."

When asked if he wanted to respond to some of the comments in the letter, Riebeling said, "You have to go to my attorney, Don Bolton."
