LOXLEY, Ala. — The Loxley town council met Monday Jan. 11. All members were present for the meeting.
Fire Chief Tim Curry told the council that the Loxley Volunteer Fire Department department had received a call from the Baldwin County Emergency management Agency requesting a tanker truck be sent to Clarke County.
“The Clarke water system is down,” Curry told the council. The reason for the outage appears to be frozen pipes. He went on to explain the Baldwin has asked every department with a tanker to send a unit there for a day at a time until the emergency is over.
Curry, who works at Central Baldwin Middle School, will be taking vacation time to take the department’s new tanker with other members of the Loxley VFD up to Clarke County. The tanker will be used to shuttle water.
“Be sure to keep track of you expenses so they can be reimbursed,” said Mayor Billy Middleton.
The council voted unanimously to permit the use of the tanker.
Loxley Police Chief John Cason presented bids for a new copier for the police department. After much discussion on the merits of the bids, it was decided to go with a Konica/Minolta system.
In other council action, the council:
—Approved the minutes of the Dec. 14, 2009 meeting.
—Approved the payment of $47,407.56 in town bills.
—Exempted two individuals or businesses from the Garbage Fee. Middleton explained that applications go to town clerk Carol Middleton and then to the council. The council voted to approve the recommendations.
— Accepted a check from Baldwin EMC in the amount of $148,242.58 for the use of city property.
“This is tiding of great joy,” joked Middleton as he accepted the check.
