Traffic light timing set for high season use

GULF SHORES, Ala. — Have you found yourself sitting at traffic lights in Gulf Shores longer than normal? It’s not your imagination.

After receiving complaints from residents, the city of Gulf Shores plans to work with transportation engineering firm Skipper and Associates to create a seasonal traffic light system.

“We are working on a timing program to implement in our synchronized system,” Public Works director Mark Acreman said. “Our goal is to create a timing plan so the side streets will have more green time.”

Acreman said the stop lights are currently set for heavy summer traffic leaving up to a two minute wait on a side street.

He said the system will hopefully allow for longer green lights in the winter when traffic is lighter.
