ROBERTSDALE — The Daphne Trojans varsity football team improved to 7-0 on the season, 5-0 in 6A Region 2 play with a 43-14 victory over the Robertsdale Golden Bears (3-4, 1-4) Friday night at J.D. Sellars Stadium in Robertsdale.

After recovering a Robertrsdale fumble on the second play of the game, the Trojans fumbled in the endzone to leave the game scoreless, but scored on their next three possessions and collected a safety, going on to take a 36-0 halftime lead.

Daphne had just 27 offensive plays in the first half to Robertsdale's 31, but averaged just over 10 yards per play, while holding the Bears to 26 total yards through the first two quarters of play.

Daphne's first score took just three plays after Robertsdale ran three plays for minus-11 yards, plus a 5-yard penalty on its second drive of the game. Roderick Tate sacked Hunter Vaughn for an eight-yard loss on third down, forcing the Bears to punt from their own 4.

A short punt then gave the Trojans good field possession at the Bear 39. A nine-yard run by Tyrell Holloway on first down, was followed by no gain on second then quarterback Russ Mosley connected with Holloway on a 30-yard strike for the score and Brandon Roberts added the extra point to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead with 6:39 remaining in the opening period.

After a touchback brought the ball out to the Bear 20, Robertsdale snapped the ball over Vaughn's head for a 19-yard loss and Vaughn couldn't get the ball out of the endzone on second down for a safety to make the score 9-0 with 5:01 left in the opening period.

Daphne got the ball back and scored again two plays later on an 18-yard run by Justin Jackson and Roberts chipped in the extra point to give the Trojans a 16-0 lead with 3:53 left in the first quarter.

Robertsdale picked up a pair of first downs behind the running of Vaughn and Sammie Tolbert, but the drive stalled near midfield and Daphne took the ball back at the 17 following the punt.

After throwing two incomplete passes, Holloway took the ball on a 55-yard run down to the Bear 23 and Mosley connected with T.J. Yeldon from there. Roberts' extra point was again good to make the score 22-0 with 9:49 remaining in the half.

It would take 20 seconds for Daphne to score again as Zack Houston picked off Vaughn's pass and raced 27 yards into the endzone for the score. The extra point put Daphne up 29-0 with 9:29 remaining in the half.

Daphne added one more score before the half. Yeldon again capitalized on a long run by Holloway, running the ball in from three-yards out after Holloway took the ball 68 yards from the Trojan 29 to the Bear 3. Roberts would this time have his extra point attempt partially blocked, leaving the score at 36-0 with 3:19 remaining in the second quarter.
