BAY MINETTE, Ala.—Daphne’s Tevin Rencher was named the 2014 Bay Area Roundball Classic MVP as his Trojans defeated Baldwin County High 62-44 in the annual tournament championship Saturday in Bay Minette.

The Trojans balanced the offensive effort with four players in double figures. Rencher scored 14 points for DHS while teammates Bradley Nero led with 15 points, Devonte Young had 11 points and C.J. Yelding 10.

Zakori Savage led the Tigers with 11 points and Montrey Bishop supplied 10. Nero and Savage were named to the all-tournament team.

“We’re playing well and having fun and it’s exciting for us to win it this time,” said Daphne head coach Cedric Yelding. “We’ve been playing better since before Christmas and went on a little roll and been improving. Now we want to stay focused and keep playing at this level. And when they are doing that and playing together as a team, good things will happen.”

Daphne improved to 10-8 overall during the tournament and will travel to Fairhope for an important 6A Area 3 game Tuesday.

In the third-place game Robertsdale outpaced Fairhope 65-51. Rashad Hobby led  the Golden Bears with 26 points and was named to the all-tournament team. Lonnie Dailey added 15 points for RHS while the Pirates’ Trent Baggerly—who finished with 12 points—was named to the all-tournament team for FHS.

In other games, 2013 Bay Area Classic champion Spanish Fort defeated 5A Area 2 rival Gulf Shores 71-51 and Foley beat Bayside Academy 62-54.

All-tournament designee Quinn Atkinson scored 17 points for the Toros as teammate Kevin Marion added 15 points for SFHS. Joan Pouparinas led all scorers with 19 points for the Dolphins and was also named to the all-tournament team.

Romello Harris led the Lions with 20 points and Ethan Krauss added 17 for Foley.  The Admirals’ Spencer Newman had a game and final-round high of 25 points. Newman and Malik Johnson were also named all-tournament for 2014.
