EIGHT MILE, Ala.—Daphne senior Devonte Young led the Trojans with 22 points and 12 rebounds in a 62-37 win over Murphy’s Panthers in the MLK Day Willie Scott Invitational at Blount High Monday. Murphy was led by Cameron Grepke’s 11 points.
Murphy led early but the Trojans put up 21 second-period points while holding the Panthers to three to take a 29-13 lead into halftime. Daphne extended its 16-point lead in the third quarter for a 43-25 advantage and outscored MHS 19-12 down the stretch.
Young had nine points going into the final period then finished with a 13-point flurry inside for the game high. The Trojans improved to 14-9 overall. The Trojans are at Fairhope Wednesday and at Foley Friday in Class 6A Area 3 play. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
• In the Classic’s nightcap No. 4-ranked Class 6A Theodore took down the No. 2-ranked 6A Blount Leopards 68-62.
BHS led 15-12 after eight minutes and 31-29 at the half. But the Bobcats went on a 19-10 run in the third period to pull ahead 48-41. The Leopards made a run but THS countered mid-way through the fourth-quarter and the Bobcats held on for the big win.
Theodore’s Dazon Ingram led all players with 24 points. Antonio Chapman chaulked up 19 to lead the now 18-3 Leopards.
