Truck mishap closes I-10 lane

LOXLEY, Ala. — An overturned tractor-trailer near the 62 mile marker eastbound on Interstate 10 blocked one lane of traffic early Wednesday morning, said a spokesperson for the Alabama State Troopers.

“A tractor trailer overturned,” said Martha Earnhardt, who is in the state troopers’ public affairs office. According to Earnhardt one vehicle was involved in the mishap, which backed up traffic during morning rush hour.

Earnhardt said one lane of traffic was allowed eastbound on I-10, but the other lane was blocked as rescue personnel attended to the driver and attempted to right the vehicle.

According to Lt. Lee Peacock of the Alabama State Troopers Mobile office, traffic flow on both lanes was restored before 9 a.m.

Some traffic was diverted to U.S. 90.

There was no word at this time as to what might have caused the accident, but Peacock said, “No other vehicle was involved.”

The truck, Peacock said, struck a guard rail and went down an embankment.

“Responders are still at the scene,” said Earnhardt Wednesday morning, adding, “It is possible that the driver of the truck has injuries, but they appear to be minor at this time.”

According to Peacock the female driver of the truck, was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

“A small amount of diesel fuel escaped,” said Earnhardt, adding that appropriate personnel were attending to that matter.
