MOBILE,Alabama—Jackson Tunks, 14, of Fairhope attended the USA Swimming Zone Select Camp for the Southern Zone held at the University of Louisville last month. Tunks was one of eight male athletes from his age group selected for their IMX point scores from the 2010 Long Course season.
According to the USA website, the purpose of the camp is “to identify the emerging young athletes” and “offer them a unique motivational and educational experience.” Athletes attending the camp swam two practices a day and attended several hours in the classroom learning about nutrition, goal setting, and the U.S. Olympic team progression.
Tunks swims for the City of Mobile Swim Association (CMSA) and was the second swimmer from the team in two years to attend the Zone Select Camp. Will Glass, 15, of Mobile attended the 2010 camp based on his performance in the 100-meter butterfly. “It is a tremendous honor to attend the USA Swimming Zone Select Camp,” said CMSA head coach Greg Davis. “This recognizes Jackson as one of the top 13-14 year old boys in the country. CMSA is very proud of Jackson for his accomplishments and being recognized as an emerging young athlete in the sport of swimming.”
