J.W. “Catfish” Turner Jr. , born Dec. 25, 1923 in Century, Fla., died on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at home after a lengthy illness.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Turner Sr.
He was preceded in death by his wife Florence Turner, sister, Cleo Smith, and two brothers, Leroy and Leon Turner.
He was in the army with Patton during World War II. When he got out he enlisted in the Navy and retired in 1965. He was a member of Bahia Shrine Temple of Orlando, Fla., an honorable member of Hadji Shrine Temple of Pensacola, Fla., a member of the Masonic Lodge #925 of Lillian and a member of Disabled American Veterans of Alabama.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara A Lowitz, Peggy R. Lischka, Patricia L. Boffman and Carla N. Todd, all of Lillian; a son, J.W. Turner III of Florida; two sisters, Louise Travwick of Pensacola, Fla., and Marynan Jopp of Elberta; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Elberta.
The family requests memorial donations be made to any Salvation Army in the state of Alabama.
