T.W. (Bill) Mitchell born Nov. 3, 1928, died Feb. 2, 2013
Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, businessman, philanthropist, civic icon, and friend. Few people touched the lives of so many in a positive, uplifting and caring way as Bill Mitchell. These pages cannot list the names of all of those that he helped, never wanting or seeking recognition for himself. He walked in the highest circles of business, industry and politics yet never lost the common touch. Always the visionary, he built Stuart Construction Company, Inc. into a major general contracting company in the Southeast, was one of the initial founders of Commercial Guaranty Bank in Mobile, Alabama, and sat on the Board of Directors of SouthTrust Corporation for may years, was a principle developer of Gulf Shores, Alabama and Orange Beach, Alabama, was a longtime Trustee of Mobile College and initiated many successful businesses and civic endeavors too numerous to count. He had a strong faith in God and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Bay Minette, Alabama. Many have and will attempt to emulate him. He was an original. He will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nell Bryant and Thomas E. Mitchell and a grandson, James Matthew Mitchell. He is survived by his Wife of 67 years, Betty Stuart Mitchell; his son, Thomas E. (Lee) Mitchell; his daughter, Betty M. (Bob) Wills; five grandchildren, Thomas W. (Jennifer) Mitchell II, Elizabeth W. (Robbie) Strom, Robert A. (Katherine) Wills Jr., Mary Dillon (Richie) Sullivan and Mary Louise W. (Russ) Reynolds; thirteen great- grandchildren; his brother, Capt. Eugene Bryant (Toni) Mitchell (USN Ret.). The family request that in lieu of flowers that contributions me made either to the First Baptist Church of Bay Minette Capital Improvement Fund or the First United Methodist Church of Bay Minette Building Fund. A memorial service for Mr. Mitchell was held Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Bay Minette.
