FOLEY, Ala. — A 19-year-old Atmore woman and 26-year-old Foley man were arrested Tuesday in connection with a robbery attempt that same day at a Foley grocery store parking lot.
Lt. David White, commander of Criminal Investigations at Foley Police Department, said a Foley resident was putting groceries into his vehicle in the parking lot of the Winn Dixie at 1235 S. McKenzie Strett at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
“A female approached him with a gun and attempted to rob him of his money,” White said Wednesday.
When the man said he didn’t have a wallet, the female ran toward Michigan Avenue and got in a vehicle,
White said, adding that a witness gave a description of the vehicle.
The vehicle in question was spotted by officer Eric Leisenring in the Beulah Heights neighborhood at a residence off of South Maple Street, White said.
Officers made contact at that point and arrested Brittany Lafaye Barnes and James Ellis Brown.
The two were charged with one count each of second-degree robbery for their alleged involvement in the Winn Dixie incident. Brown also had outstanding warrants out of Bay Minette.
According to White, the robbery victim gave a description of the handgun the female allegedly used in the robbery attempt.
White said officers did not recover a gun when Barnes and Brown were arrested.
Second-degree robbery is a Class B felony that carries a prison term of two to 20 years.
Barnes and Brown were booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center on Wednesday morning.
As of Wednesday afternnon both were still in jail under a $15,000 bond each on the robbery charge.
