FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Trent Austin Coley and Robert Carter Terral, both of BSA Troop 47 in Fairhope, have each achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Fewer than 5 percent of all who enter Boy Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank possible from the Boy Scouts of America. To honor this special occasion, an Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held at Faith Baptist Church, on Saturday, Jan. 05.
Trent is the son of Phil and Theresa Webb and the late Ronald A. Coley and is a senior at Fairhope High School. Trent’s grandparents are Mary West and the late Tradis West Sr., Virgil and Jean Coley and the late Ola Coley, and Sue Bradley.
Carter is the son of Dr. Gregg and Lori Terral, also a senior at Fairhope High School. Carter’s grandparents are Bob and Wanda Blakeley and Bill and Mitty Terral.
In order to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, both young men spent several years working through the BSA ranks, which included 21 merit badges, service to their community and leadership positions in their troop. A major component for the Eagle rank is to plan, organize, and exhibit leadership in completing a special community service project.
Trent’s project was to build and install a sheltered information board with a brick patio for the Fairhope Single Tax Colony Cemetery. The project was completed with the help and support of family, friends, fellow scouts, and scout leaders. It took over 200 man hours to build and was completed on June 10, 2007. Most of the construction materials were donated by a local business.
Carter’s project was to replace benches in the break area of Fairhope Middle School. The project consisted of building eight benches and installing them in the break area. In addition, two picnic tables were built to help accommodate more students in the break area. This project took over 200 man hours to complete and materials for the project were provided by Fairhope Middle School. Carter had the help and support of his family, friends, fellow scouts, scout leaders and FMS administration.
The invocation and benedictions for the Eagle Scout Court of Honor were delivered by Trent and Carter’s pastor, Rev. J.D. McDuffie, of The Way. The Eagle Pledge was given by Gray Strickland, their youth pastor. Chris Lawrence served as master of ceremonies and Lee Webb, Trent’s brother, presented the introduction of all Eagle Scouts in attendance.
Phil Webb presented the Eagle Charge and Seth Peden, Scoutmaster of Troop 47, presented the Eagle awards. After the presentation, a banquet was held in Trent and Carter’s honor.
