ROBERTSDALE, Alabama -- A Baldwin County grand jury has handed down indictments for two of the suspects in the death of a Milton, Fla., man whose body was found near Styx River in September 2012.
Samuel Dixson, 54, of Milton, Fla., was reported missing and was later identified as a homicide victim after his body was found off of County Road 68 near the Styx River Bridge on by volunteers from the Styx River Volunteer Fire Department.
On Thursday, June 27, it was reported that Fred “Shooter” Weiss, 45, of Northport, has been indicted on murder charges, while Mary Kay Hockett, 48, of Loxley, has been indicted on hindering prosecution charges by a Baldwin County grand jury in the case.
Weiss, along with Adam Lowery Mayton, 28, of Tuscaloosa, were arrested by the Tuscaloosa Sheriff’s Office and Homicide Task Force, both facing murder charges. Weiss remains in jail on a $1 million bond while Mayton has been released from the Baldwin County Corrections Center.
Investigators say while one man pulled the trigger, the other is equally responsible.
Hockett, along with Bruce Talbot, 41, of Robertsdale, Ruth Boyles, 45, listed as homeless, and Charles Eric Ozier, 24, of Tuscaloosa, have all been charged with hindering prosecution. There are currently no records available for any of the four suspects on the Baldwin County Corrections Facility website.
According to a press release issued in September 2012, Mayton and Weiss, as well as the victim, are members of the Devil’s Diciples motorcycle gang. Ozier and Talbot are also reportedly members of the gang.
Dixson was reported missing to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department on Sept. 10, 2012 by his wife, who stated she had last spoken with her husband the night of Sept. 7.
Around 2 a.m. Sept. 10, the Rosinton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire which destroyed a trailer on Northcutt Lane. Sheriff’s officials believe the trailer was a club house for an Alabama chapter of the Devil’s Diciples motorcycle gang.
Dixson’s vehicle was taken into evidence by the Escambia County, Fla., Sheriff’s Office later that day. There was no sign of foul play at the scene. Investigators recovered the victim’s walking can within the truck
On Sept. 12, volunteers with the Styx River Fire Department found Dixson’s body off County Road 68 near the Styx River Bridge. The body was recovered by investigators and sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsy.
The trailer fire was under investigation by the Alabama State Fire Marshals. The Federal Bureau of Investigations and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also assisted in the investigation.
